PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY IN EDMONTON, ALBERTA

At Central Dental, we pride ourselves in treating our littlest patients with all the care and thoughtfulness they deserve.

When treating children, it is essential to make them feel comfortable and to alleviate any fears and insecurities they may have. As such, make take extra steps so that your child has a positive dental experience from their very first visit and on.

When should my child be seen by a dentist?

The Canadian Dental Association recommends that a child should be seen by a dentist at the age of one. However, we believe that children should be brought in at the age of two for a fun visit, and age three for an official visit.

We recommend that parents should start cleaning a child’s teeth with a soft cloth or baby toothbrush when the first baby tooth appears in the mouth.

It is important not to comfort the child at bedtime by giving him/her a bottle of milk or juice, as it can cause serious dental decay.

My child is terrified to see a dentist. What should I do?

We encourage you to book your child’s appointment, no matter their age or level of fear. We will do our best to create a positive experience for them. For example, you may book your child for a cleaning, but we may only end up giving them a ride in the chair, letting them hold the dental mirror and then offering them a prize. This may seem like a waste of time, but it helps to build trust and confidence for the child with the dentist and the office. Most of the time, their second visit is significantly more productive.
